Evans, John Paul (2004) Bed Sheet Dreams. [Show/Exhibition] (Unpublished)

'Bed Sheet Dreams' is a series of photographic images and resulting catalogue investigating the possibilities of depicting the male body through photography, avoiding the conventional male/female, active/passive binary oppositions. The methods used to approach the research question explore the limitation of recording self-portraits with a digital camera held at arm's length. Presenting the photographer with a set of spatial and durational difficulties, the resulting images become painterly and expressionistic and depict a figure/body that is ‘out of control’ a condition the male must avoid under patriarchy. The research is conceptually linked to Evans' ongoing investigation into representations of the male body.
