Abstract

This book has been written for beginning science teachers. It provides the reader with a relevant theoretical background in teaching and learning and gives the reader the opportunity to follow up the issues raised by providing an extensive list of references. The book encourages the reader to use the many practical examples of teaching and to evaluate their effectiveness in the classroom. Guidance is given through series of questions that prompt the reader to reflect on what has happened in the classroom. A key aim for the book is to enable the teacher to apply research findings and theory to their own situation. The book has been adopted widely for initial teacher education courses in universities throughout the UK.
