Abstract

The visual research question addressed in this touring exhibition of paintings and drawings explores the roles of the female within a male-dominated environment: how can representational images of women be manipulated to communicate subtleties of sexual identities resistant to conventional notions of culturally-conditioned behaviour? This question is addressed first within a UK context, and then within an African context, the theme of the original output being expressed directly through drawing-performances on site at The National Art Gallery of Zimbabwe in Harare and Bulawayo. The exhibit consists of 365 pieces. The exhibition tour started 13 May 2006 and ended 8 April 2007.
