Abstract

The following paper will seek to explain the popularity of Ovid's Heroides in Sweden of the late 18th century. It argues that reception of Ovid’s Heroides in Sweden is closely connected to developments in European contemporary literature. Specifically, it is reflective of the close involvement of Swedish literati with 18th-century trends in literary form and content on the continent. The paper includes a case study of A.M. Lenngren's translation of Ovid's letter from Dido to Aeneas.
