Abstract

Consumer culture theory (CCT) has been widely used in various consumption contexts as a culture-oriented approach. Nevertheless, exploring tourist experiences based on the CCT lens in heritage tourism is still limited, especially in Chinese culture. The research aims to determine how a cultural heritage site’s symbolic and experiential consumption impacts Chinese consumers and how culture affects the experience of Chinese tourists. Thus, it focuses on constructing tourists’ cultural experience and personal meanings and further negotiating their possible aspects of identity through consuming cultural attributes in the world heritage site of Mount Lushan. An interpretivism paradigmatic foundation underpins this research, and a mixed strategy comprising a single case study, ethnography and netnography is adopted.
